Heart attacks vary widely in their effect on the body. Some people live normal lives after a heart attack with little or no change in their way of life. Others are fatal as you know.

There is no way of knowing how badly your brother-in-law has been affected until you hear from your family.

It really depends what kind of life he lived. Healthy, unheathy, etc.

My prayers goes out to him.

The best thing right now is that he's in the right hands. He's alive and being treated.

Today's medicine in cardiology has gone leaps and bounds in the past 10 years.

His attitude and reaction to his doctors recomendations will make a whole lot of difference in his recovery.

Best wishes.

Heart attacks bascially depend on the severity and how long parts of the heart muscle were deprived of oxygen, which causes myocardial cell death. In other words, the heart requires oxygen to function just like any part of your body. When the region of the heart that had the blockage or attack goes without it, the areas of the heart die. Just like drowning. If you get oxygen to it soon enough after, the damage can be minimal, but certainly will be damage. The first 48 hours after the attack will tell the tale for the future. There are plenty of medicines and procedures that can help bring the heart back to health, minus the bad tissue. A good cardiologist is mandatory, and a lot of support and low stress.
